The Darlington Raceway, or "The track too tough to tame", has been a staple on the NASCAR racing series since 1950 when a crowd of over 25,000 gathered for the first running of the Southern 500.  Currently, the track plays host to 2 weekends of NASCAR excitement, and a host of other events throughout each year.  For more information on tickets to a Darlington Raceway event, please visit their website at www.darlingtonraceway.com.

Darlington Raceway is located just 15 minutes from the Florence Regional Airport.  You can visit our Ground Transportation section for information on arranging travel from the airport to the raceway and it's events.  The Darlington Raceway operates the Joe Weatherly Stock Car Museum and NMPA Hall of Fame year round.  This museum has been recently renovated with new attractions and information and is open daily from 9am to 5pm.

A great way to spend an afternoon in Florence is to take in the sights and sounds of the Pee Dee Cyclones hockey team.  The Florence Regional Airport is a proud supporter of the Pee Dee Cyclones.  Games are played regularly at the Florence Civic Center, conveniently located at the intersections of Interstates 20 and 95.

Also playing in the Florence Civic Center is the newly formed indoor football team, the Florence Phantoms.  The Florence Phantoms inaugural season will be the 2006/07 season. The Florence Regional Airport wishes good luck for the Florence Phantoms.

America's Pastime is alive and well in Florence with the Florence Red Wolves "baseball the way it ought to be".  As a college summer baseball team of the Coastal Plain League, the Red Wolves give college-level players a chance to showcase their talent for professional scouts, improve their skills and gain experience in a minor league atmosphere.  From June to August, the American Legion Park adjacent to Memorial Stadium hosts America's favorite pastime, and Florence fans cheer on their hometown team.
